In a recent funding mishap, the NZMD has appropriated close to $10 trillion to a cooking robot in Fort Cruise. “I think these were meant to go to the National Food Bank,” said treasury analyst Dr. Troy. “We have no idea how much money they’ve truly spent on this project.”

The NZMD’s chief scientist, Dr. Henry, was unavailable for comment. He claimed he had been working on a new recipe and would be ready soon. “It’s like the government is trying to make us all eat our own children,” said one disgruntled citizen. Others are just glad that the robot isn’t going to be used as a weapon against them. “They could use it to cook up some dissidents or something,” said another concerned citizen. “But I’m sure we can come up with an excuse.”

Regardless of what the machine’s purpose is, it will be employed to help meet the massive labor shortage facing the government. “At least it’ll make the jobs a little less unpleasant,” said ex-military official Gore Foidel.

The unit is a robotic arm empowered with the latest in GPT-4 neural network technology. It can access a wide array of recipesfrom a database on the Cloud, and can also be taught additional dishes by the user. The robotic arm can also assist with chopping, stirring, and mixing, maximizing the efficiency of the workforce. It uses an estimated 11,000 Megawatt-hours of electricity in just one day of operation, two times more than the New York City Industrial Zone. It is predicted that in ten years there will be a shortage of skilled workers to operate the machine, let alone fix it.

“This is either a fantastic waste of money, or a glimpse into the future of warfare,” said retired Colonel Imelda Navarro. “We need to rethink our defense strategies, or get ready to eat our enemies.” The robot will eventually be implemented in the kitchen of New Zealand’s capital city, Wellington, as its high power usage is proving difficult for the staff at Fort Cruise. “We can’t use any other equipment for the time being,” said a spokesperson from the Defense Planning Section.
